I see tons of websites for resorts, playboy, sex islands, vikings, Dr nights.  Some seem like scams.  Hard to tell what is legit.  Who can vouch for some?

It's not like the sex resorts in the DR in that you are not buying an all-inclusive package with time with their own girls. All the girls at the Cocal are independent, the hotel permits them to operate there and you cut your own deal with them individually. Rooms are around $150 per night and the girls charge $120 to $150/hr., some higher. I was there last month and a friend a few months before.
Also, you don't need to stay there to drop in and pick a girl. You can stay at another hotel, as long as it's hooker-friendly. There may be a $10 or $20 charge to bring a girl to your room.

If you are going to play at the CoCal stay at the CoCal.  I have been to the CoCal 7 or 8 times.  It's simply Heaven.  I'll be back in September.

What's the girls scene there?

Though I'll agree it's the most convenient thing and I have done that. But when I stayed in Jaco it was for a couple of months and you can stay in nicer places for much less.
The scene at the Cocal pool bar was wild, pre-Covid, with up to 100 hotties from all over Central America. I was there in the afternoon in late March and it was very quiet, but even back in the day it didn't heat up until after 7 pm.

The girls all talk and if you ask one of them about it she'll gossip to the others, who may not see you as a result. I'd advise you to just get a date and see what happens.
I had a girl refuse to see me because she knew I'd asked other girls for BBBJ. I did openly ask about BBBJ because it's such a deal-breaker for me. But I never asked for BBFS, I simply ended up getting it a few times. Never caught anything.

Stayed at CoCal ONCE.  Moved the next morning for someplace quieter because I am old and have grown to love sleep.  
It is super fun but be warned it is super loud until super late.  30 years ago I wouldn't have even thought about staying anywhere else.

back then it wasn't "super loud until super late." They shut the music down around 11:30 and most people left.

Visited Costa Rica last summer.  2 nights in San Jose and 4 nights in Jaco.  The Cocal hotel in Jaco is an incredible scene.  Way more working women then men.  Rented a beach house about 15 minutes away from the Cocal and had no problem taking ladies to our house.  Also visited with some local ladies not "working" at Cocal.  Would definitely return.
